» Warehouse Pallet Rack Beam

Product Description

A pallet rack beam is a crucial component of a pallet racking system. It is mainly used to support pallets and the goods placed on them.

Structure and Shape of Pallet Rack Beam

 Typical Structure:

Pallet rack beams are usually long, straight metal bars. They are designed to span between the uprights of a pallet rack.

Cross-sectional Shape:

Common cross-sectional shapes include I-beams, C-channels, box beams and step beam. I-beam-shaped beams have high strength and good load-bearing capacity, and the upper and lower flanges of the I-beam can effectively bear the pressure from the pallets. C-channel beams are relatively lightweight and have good flexibility in installation and use. Box beam structures have better torsion resistance and lateral stability. The pallet rack step beam is designed to be clipped onto standard uprights and is secured in place with pallet rack safety pins

Materials of Pallet Rack Beam

 Steel:

Most pallet rack beams are made of high-quality steel, such as cold-rolled steel or hot-rolled steel. These steels have high strength, good toughness, and excellent load-bearing capacity, which can ensure the stability and safety of the beams when storing heavy goods.

Surface Treatment:

To enhance corrosion resistance and durability, the surface of the beams is often treated by processes such as galvanization or powder coating. Galvanized beams have a dense zinc layer on the surface, which can effectively prevent rust and corrosion; powder-coated beams have a colorful and smooth surface, which not only has good anti-corrosion performance but also has a certain decorative effect.

Types of Pallet Rack Beam

Single-Sided Beam:

This type of beam is usually used on one side of the pallet rack and is suitable for situations where goods need to be accessed from only one side.

Double-Sided Beam:

Double-sided beams are used on both sides of the pallet rack, allowing goods to be stored and accessed from both sides. This type of beam is more commonly used in warehouses to improve space utilization and operational efficiency.

Adjustable Beam:

Some pallet rack beams are adjustable, allowing the height and position of the beams to be adjusted according to the size and quantity of the goods, providing more flexibility in storage.

Load-Bearing Capacity of pallet rack beam

Rated Load:

Pallet rack beams have a specific rated load capacity, which is determined by factors such as the material, size, and structure of the beam. Common beam load capacities range from a few hundred kilograms to several tons. For example, in a general light-duty pallet racking system, the load capacity of a single beam may be around 500 kilograms, while in a heavy-duty system, it can reach 2 tons or more.

Influence Factors:

The actual load-bearing capacity of the beam can be affected by factors such as the span of the beam, the number of support points, and the distribution of the load. A longer span usually means a lower load-bearing capacity, and an uneven load distribution can also reduce the effective load-bearing capacity of the beam.

Role in Pallet Racking Systems

Load Support:

The most important role of pallet rack beams is to support the weight of pallets and goods. They evenly distribute the weight of the goods to the uprights of the pallet rack, ensuring the stability of the entire racking system.

Determining Storage Space and Layout:

The number, spacing, and height of the beams determine the storage space and layout of the pallet racking system. By reasonably arranging the beams, the storage space can be fully utilized to improve the storage efficiency of the warehouse.
