Stillage cages, also known as pallet cages or storage cages, are wire – meshed containers. They are typically made of strong steel wire that is welded together to form a cubic – shaped structure. The wire mesh construction allows for visibility of the contents inside the cage. They usually have a gate or an opening mechanism, often a drop – down gate or a sliding gate, which provides easy access to load and unload items.

The base of the stillage cage is designed to be strong enough to support heavy loads. Some stillage cages have additional features like fork – lift pockets. These are openings on the sides or bottom of the cage that allow a forklift to easily lift and move the cage around the warehouse or storage area.

Advantages of stillage cage

Sturdy structure: Usually made of metallic materials, such as steel or wire, it has high strength and stability, can bear relatively large weights, and thus ensures the safe storage and transportation of goods.

Stackability: In general, stackability is taken into consideration during the design. When empty, the cages can be stacked up, saving storage space; when fully loaded, they can also be stacked stably, improving the utilization rate of space.

Foldable or detachable: Some stillage cages have the functions of being foldable or detachable. When not in use, they can be folded or disassembled for storage, which is convenient for transportation, storage, and helps reduce transportation costs and occupied storage space.

Easy to handle: They are usually equipped with structures that can be operated by forklifts or pallet trucks, such as fork holes or slides at the bottom, facilitating the handling by forklifts, pallet trucks and other equipment and improving the loading and unloading efficiency.

Good visibility: If it is a wire mesh stillage cage, it has good visibility, allowing workers to check the goods inside the cage without having to open it, so that they can know the quantity and status of the goods.

Applications of stillage cage

Warehousing and logistics: It is used to store various kinds of goods, such as spare parts, raw materials, and finished products. It can effectively utilize the warehouse space and facilitate the classified storage and management of goods. In logistics distribution centers, it can be used for temporarily storing and transshipping goods, making it convenient for handling equipment like forklifts to load and unload.

Industrial production: In factory workshops, it can be used to store work-in-progress items, tooling fixtures, etc., keeping the working area clean and orderly. For example, in automobile manufacturing factories, it can be used to store auto parts.

Retail industry: In retail places such as supermarkets and shopping malls, it can be used to display and store commodities. In the fresh food area of large supermarkets, stillage cages can be used to store fruits, vegetables, and so on.
