» How to avoid collisions between forklifts and warehouse storage racks?

As is well known, forklifts, stackers, and other equipment are frequently used to transport goods in large warehouses, and there is a risk of collision with numerous racks in the warehouse. Especially when encountering inexperienced forklift drivers, due to their limited operational skills, they are more likely to cause damage to pillars, guardrails, brackets, and pallets. So what measures can be taken to reduce the risk of collisions between forklifts and warehouse storage racks?

1. Reserve a safe distance

In the early stage of warehouse planning, warehouse storage rack designers can increase the width of rack channels appropriately based on the actual situation of the warehouse owner, and reserve some safety distances for drivers in advance. This can effectively reduce collisions between forklifts and pillars and brackets.

2. Add protective devices

Add protective devices, such as installing fork gear sleeves on forklifts, or adding protective sleeves on brackets and guardrails. However, although this method can reduce the damage to the warehouse storage racks caused by forklifts, it provides opportunities for some drivers with poor technical skills, making it difficult to determine the driver’s level of operation.

3. Create a visual deceleration line

Drawing a visual deceleration line on the ground of the passage instead of a deceleration sign often results in experienced drivers driving at a relatively fast speed, which leads to a certain distance between the measured distance and the actual distance. Therefore, a simple deceleration sign may not have a very obvious effect.

4. Choose an experienced forklift driver

Select experienced forklift drivers and conduct regular training. On the one hand, enhance pre-job training to enhance the safety awareness of forklift drivers before they start work. On the other hand, after drivers start work, they can strengthen their safety awareness through regular assessments.

To avoid or reduce the risk of collisions between forklifts and warehouse storage racks, in addition to the above four points, the most important thing should be for managers to have high requirements and high standards, develop warehouse operation and management standards, and strictly implement them. Forklift drivers should also continuously improve their technical level and safety awareness, in order to prevent accidents before they occur.
